At the request of the Dean and Executive Committee of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, the following statement was adopted for inclusion in these minutes, with the understanding that a copy will be sent to Dr. Donald G. Marquis, Chairman of the Department of Psychology, resigned (p. 442):

The President and Board of Regents of the University of Michigan and the Dean and Executive Committee of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, on the occasion of the appointment of your successor as Chairman of the Department of Psychology, wish to record their appreciation for the extraordinary services which you rendered to the University of Michigan from the time of your appointment as Professor of Psychology and Chairman of the Department in 1946 to the time of your resignation.

Under your able leadership the scope of psychology was greatly broadened within the University. In undergraduate instruction, in graduate training, and in research the Department has moved into a position of eminence within the University of Michigan and among universities in the United States and abroad. The University of Michigan is much indebted to you for these evidences of a very successful chairmanship.
