Charles Howard Stocking, a native of Stockbridge, Michigan, and a graduate
of this University with the degrees Ph.C. (1907), B.S. (1909), and M.S.
(1925), has for the past thirty-two years been a valued and respected member
of the faculty of the University of Michigan.

From 1947 to 1949 he was Acting Director of the College of Pharmacy, and
from that time until 1951 Professor of Pharmacy and Dean of the College of
Pharmacy. A man of ready sympathy and understanding, and with long
experience in pharmaceutical manufacture and pharmaceutical education,
Dean Stocking enjoys a wide acquaintance and many friendships throughout
the profession, especially among the graduates of our College of Pharmacy
who have profited both by his instruction and by his counsel. His 1952
election to the presidency of the American Association of Colleges of
Pharmacy in 1932-33 is evidence of the estimation in which his colleagues
have held him in pharmaceutical education, and his many writings reflect his
constant activity in this field.

As Dean Stocking has attained his seventieth birthday on August 27, 1952,
and has therefore become eligible for retirement as of that date under the
Bylaws of the University, the Regents of the University of Michigan hereby
extend to him their sincere thanks for his long-continued, conscientious, and
able service in the posts which he has occupied, and confer upon him the
title Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy and Dean Emeritus of the College of
Pharmacy, inviting him to avail himself of all the courtesies customarily
extended to emeritus members of the faculty.
