Humanities. — The change in name of the department from English to Humanities reflects the broadening of the humanities and social science education of the engineer. In 1968-69, Great Books courses replaced the freshman composition courses. Advanced courses in rhetoric and scientific and technical communication were implemented at the senior level. While courses in literature were continued, new courses such as "the philosophy of technology" were introduced. In addition, an interdisciplinary elective program in American Studies was established.
